Freya's characteristics

Freya's character theme is "Despair" - in the manner that she fears that the lack of one's existance is a fate worse than death, as evident by her reaction when realising that Sir Fratley had lost his memory, and by her personal quote:

"To be forgotten is worse than death"

As a character, Freya is generally withdrawn and tends to hide her sadness from those around her, including some of her closest friends and comrades. In spite of her unhappiness, she hides her vulnerableness by appearing self-assured and independant, and accepts herself to her own fate. Even when Sir Fratley is revealed to have amnesia, instead of chasing after him, she accepts the fact that he is still alive, despite Zidane and Vivi seeing her so vulnerable.

Freya also conceals an agressive side, and is also somewhat self-consious of her own appearance. This is evident by her reaction after Zidane calls her a rat-face ("Rat-face... After I finish my drink, I'm gonna kick your butt.") and when Amarant looked at her at the Alexandrian docks, to which she responded by challenging him to a fight. However, she does not hold grudges against people for long, and will often ally with individuals who may have wronged her in the past, as shown when she stays behind in Alexandria with Beatrix and Steiner.

Freya is an individual who places loyalty above all else. When Burmecia was attacked by the Black Mage Army, her top priority was to ensure that the king of Burmecia was safe, in spite of her fellow comrades advising her to escape the crumbling city. Even when the Black Mages invade Cleyra, her top priority was to protect the townsfolk from being attacked, until Sir Fratley arrives to finish off the remaining Black Mages. In addition to this, she is also compassionate to those who are weaker than herself, especially women and children in particular.

For the most part, Freya speaks in a rather formal tone whenever she addresses individuals such as fellow comrades and strangers, or to those of a higher authority than herself. In situations where she feels threatened or insulted, she will often speak in a "normal" tone, as evident when she tried to pick a fight with Zidane and Amarant.

As a fighter, Freya is a somewhat weak combatant during the early stages of the game, with the excpetion of her Jump attack - she can use it to dodge enemy attacks for one round and deal a damaging blow the next. Later, she gains access to more powerful spells and abilities, such as Reis' Wind, Dragon Breath and Dragon's Crest, the latter two potentially being some the most powerful abilities in the game, making her an excellent addition to the team.
